About
Mission: Urban Strings Columbus recruits and supports underserved, urban, African American and Minority Youth to become string musicians.
Purpose: To share and perform all genres of music, from Classical, Sacred, R&B, Hip hop and contemporary music, including music by African American composers and arrangers.
To enrich and inform our greater community to the beauty of all genres of music, performed on string instruments.
Urban Strings Columbus (USC), founded in 2007, was created to recruit and support under served minority youth to play string instruments. In 2018, USC earned 501 3c status.
Urban Strings Columbus is organized in two tiers that allow students to experience string performance from intermediate, and advanced levels. The two levels include:
Half Notes: Intermediate musicians who are more familiar with their instruments, yet not ready to perform at an advanced level.
Premier Group: Advanced musicians who have played their instruments for three or more years who can perform advanced string literature.
USC is pleased to showcase our string program along with our talented student musicians who attend public, private, charter, and parochial schools throughout Central Ohio. Having performed for audiences all across the country, Urban Strings Columbus is committed to continually bring inspiration to audiences everywhere. We look forward to performing for you, as we are motivated by the phrase
“Have strings ~ will travel”.
